RKL Welcomes New Partner Barry M. Pelagatti to Firm Leadership

RADNOR, PA (July 5, 2017) – RKL LLP today announced that Barry M. Pelagatti, CPA, has joined the firm as a Partner. Based out of the firm’s Radnor office, Pelagatti will lead RKL’s Financial Services Industry Group.

Through its highly regarded credit union practice, RKL has long served the accounting and advisory needs of these financial institutions in Pennsylvania and neighboring states. The firm established a presence in the Greater Philadelphia region in October 2016 with the launch of Radnor-based RKL Risk Management LLC, which allows RKL to deliver internal audit, compliance and information technology audit services to a wider range of financial institutions.

Under Pelagatti’s leadership, RKL’s broadened focus on the financial services industry will allow the firm to deliver a robust spectrum of services to banks, credit unions and other institutions, ranging from traditional assurance and compliance requirements to cutting edge capabilities like cyber security and risk management. Pelagatti’s industry expertise and regional connections position RKL to not only grow its client base in the financial services realm but also to foster relationships across other industries in the Philadelphia area and beyond.

Pelagatti brings more than 20 years’ experience in public accounting to RKL. He has deep experience advising financial institutions on operational improvement and complex accounting and reporting matters, including mergers and acquisitions, SEC requirements and capital market transactions.

A member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), Pelagatti participates on the AICPA Depository and Lending Institutions Expert Panel. He also is a member of the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and is currently the chair of the PICPA Financial Institutions Training Committee.

Pelagatti is an active member of the New Jersey Bankers Association and the Pennsylvania Association of Community Bankers, and sits on the advisory board of the Financial Managers Society. He holds a B.S. in Accounting from St. Joseph’s University, and resides in West Grove, PA, with his wife and three daughters.

RKL’s Gilbert Elected PICPA Board Vice President

RKL partner Jill E. Gilbert, CPA, CGMARKL is pleased to announce that firm Partner Jill E. Gilbert, CPA, CGMA, has been named to the board of the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA). Gilbert was elected as board Vice President during the recent PICPA 120th Annual CPA Convention held in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.

As Vice President of the PICPA board, Gilbert will play a leading role in PICPA’s governance, strategic management and future advancement.

Gilbert is a Partner in RKL’s Audit Services Group with more than 20 years of assurance experience. She serves a broad range of industries including governmental agencies and not-for-profit organizations, specializing in employee benefit plan audits. Gilbert is a frequent speaker at local and state conferences and seminars.

In addition to her volunteer leadership role with PICPA, Gilbert also is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), Chartered Institute of Management Accountants and the Pennsylvania Association of School Business Officials, where she sits on the Accounting Committee. Gilbert also serves as Treasurer for Willow Valley Retirement Communities.

Gilbert holds a B.S. in Business Administration from Elizabethtown College. She resides in Elizabethtown with her husband and two children.

Lance is a Partner and leader in RKL’s Tax Services Group and works closely with firm leadership to ensure client service consistency and cohesion and mentor and coach team members across the tax practice.

An experienced certified public accountant and business advisor, Lance manages strategic tax planning and compliance services for corporations, partnerships and individuals. She has extensive experience providing tax services for closely held businesses and their owners. Lance joined RKL in 2005 and was named to the partnership in 2012, in recognition of her client service excellence and contributions to firm growth.

Lance is an engaged member of her community, serving as President and Board member of the Lititz-based Five Star Swim Club, Treasurer of the Warwick High School swim team parent’s organization and member of the Lititz Rec Center’s Aquatics Committee. Her previous community involvement includes leadership and key roles with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lancaster County, the United Way of Lancaster County Finance Committee and the Lititz Library.

Lance received her B.S. in Accounting from the University of Richmond and her M.S. in Taxation from Villanova University. She lives in Lititz with her husband, Jay, and their four children, Jack, Anna, Oliver and Theo.

With more than 15 years of public accounting experience, Pasquali brings a strong background in business, individual and nonprofit tax matters and compliance to RKL. He has experience serving a variety of industries, including real estate, construction and contracting, transportation, healthcare and nonprofits.

Pasquali is a Certified Public Accountant in Pennsylvania, and is a member of both the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA). He holds a B.S. in Accounting from Messiah College.

Pasquali lives in Loysville, PA. He enjoys high school and college football and wrestling, and outdoor activities with his family.

She played an integral role in the creation and growth of RKL’s investment advisory services, most recently blending the advisor team and developing an integrated service model when RKL united its two previous subsidiaries under the RKL Wealth Management name in January 2016.

An active member of the Berks area business community, Peer belongs to the Reading Chapter of the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants and serves as Board Member and Treasurer for the Berks County Estate Planning Council. She is equally engaged in philanthropic causes, currently serving as a Board Member, Treasurer/Secretary and Planning Giving Committee Member for the United Way of Berks County. Peer is a longstanding supporter of Altrusa International Inc. of Reading-Berks PA, where she co-chairs the group’s literacy efforts and takes part in volunteer events as a member of its women’s service club.

RKL claimed the 65th spot due to its 9.12 percent growth, which also helped the firm retain its ranking as the 14th largest in the Mid-Atlantic region.

RKL Names Four Partners to Firm Wide Leadership Positions

LANCASTER, PA (March 1, 2017) – RKL LLP today named four partners to service line leadership positions. Steven E. Fisher, CPA, has been named Audit Services Group Leader; Robert M. Gratalo, CPA, MST, has been named Tax Services Group Leader; Bethany A. Novis, CPA/ABV, CVA, CFE has been named Business Consulting Services Group Leader; and James H. Ostrowski, CPA, has been named Small Business Services Group Leader.

“Our focus on a service line approach is a key strategy identified in RKL’s 2020 Strategic Plan,” RKL CEO Edward W. Monborne said. “Our cross-firm operational structure will allow the service line leaders to develop approaches to hiring, growth, performance and innovation that benefit the entire firm.”

In their newly defined roles, Fisher, Gratalo, Novis and Ostrowski will be responsible for the leadership, growth and management of their respective service lines. Working in collaboration with partners from across the firm, RKL’s industry group leaders and firm management, each service line leader will drive efforts related to service offerings, client satisfaction, workforce development and quality control.

He joined RKL in 2011, and for more than 25 years he has served the accounting and auditing needs of family owned businesses as well as private equity and venture capital-backed companies. Fisher is an active member of the firm’s Manufacturing & Distribution Industry Group, due to his deep industry expertise and experience serving these privately owned commercial clients. He holds a B.S. in Accounting from Penn State University, and resides in Bernville with his wife.

With more than 20 years’ experience in public accounting, Gratalo helps clients resolve issues, tackle challenges and seize opportunities in areas like mergers and acquisitions, entity structure, tax accounting method optimization, succession planning, tax credit utilization, depreciation and capital recovery, business sales and divestitures and more. He earned a B.S. in Accounting from Elizabethtown College and a M.S. in Taxation from Widener University. Gratalo lives in York with his wife and three children.

Bethany A. Novis, CPA/ABV, CVA, CFE, is a highly credentialed consultant with 25 years’ experience in fraud and forensic accounting, business valuation, risk management and litigation services. Since joining RKL in 2000, she has assisted clients with technical and sensitive matters including reconstruction of financial records, employee theft investigation, damage calculations for litigation purposes and valuation of stock for gifting, buyouts and marital settlement. Novis also served as Managing Partner of RKL’s Lancaster Office from 2011 to 2016. She holds a B.S. in Accounting from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and resides in Lancaster with her husband and son.

James H. Ostrowski, CPA, is responsible for driving firm wide growth and managing client service and team member development for RKL’s Small Business Services Group. Throughout his more than 30-year career in public accounting with RKL, Ostrowski has experience serving the tax and assurance needs of clients in various industries including trucking, construction, wholesale, retail and service companies. WYOMISSING, PA (February 15, 2017) – RKL LLP today announced the hiring of Ryan P. Hurst, ASA, as a Manager in its Business Consulting Services Group. Based in the firm’s Wyomissing office, Hurst will perform valuations and related consulting services for clients in a wide range of industries throughout RKL’s Central and Eastern Pennsylvania footprint.

Hurst’s expertise includes conducting valuations for gifting and estate planning purposes, employee stock ownership plans (ESOPs), business purchases and sales, buy/sell agreements, fair value accounting and GAAP reporting (ASC 805 and 350), litigation support for shareholder disputes and strategic alternatives analyses.

An Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA), Hurst brings 13 years’ experience in valuation, investment banking and consulting to RKL, including several years at major investment banks and a top 25 public accounting firm. He serves on the Board of the Berks County Estate Planning Council, and is a member of the Estate Planning Council of Central Pennsylvania. Hurst is also a member of the ESOP Association and National Center for Employee Ownership (NCEO).

Hurst received his B.S. in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting and Finance from Shippensburg University. He is a member of the Greater Reading Young Professionals and the Philadelphia chapter of the GF Network. Hurst is an avid runner, cyclist and Ironman triathlon finisher. He resides in Sinking Spring with his wife, Kristen, daughters, Sadie and Kallie, and dog, Joey.

RKL’s 2016 Tax/A&A Seminar Offers Timely Regulatory and Economic Insights

Amidst significant upcoming regulatory changes and a shift in the political landscape, RKL provided timely updates and valuable insights to nearly 500 tax and accounting professionals and financial executives from across the region at the latest installment of its annual Tax and A&A seminar last week.

The full-day educational and networking event, held at the Lancaster County Convention Center on Tuesday, December 6, offered attendees to gain valuable continuing professional education credits and engage with RKL experts and regional business leaders.

This year’s agenda was packed with important guidance to help attendees prepare for major regulatory changes on the horizon like lease accounting, revenue recognition and government accounting standards. RKL tax experts also previewed the potential impact political changes in Washington D.C. could have on personal and business taxation. In a timely keynote address, noted political historian and commentator Dr. G. Terry Madonna examined the current presidential transition as well as the political dynamic in the nation and the Commonwealth.

Attendees enjoyed a variety of trivia and drawings throughout the day, with lucky winners taking home prizes ranging from local retail and restaurant gift cards to an Amazon Echo and a vacation voucher. Guests and RKL team members concluded the robust agenda with a cocktail reception that gave everyone a chance to toast the holiday season. RKL Names Myers to Partnership

YORK, PA (November 9, 2016) – RKL LLP today announced that G. Scott Myers, CPA, CSEP, will be admitted to the firm’s partnership, effective January 1, 2017.

“We are pleased to welcome Scott to the RKL partnership in recognition of the instrumental role he plays in RKL’s success and the consistently outstanding service he delivers to his clients,” said Edward W. Monborne, RKL CEO.

Currently a manager in RKL’s Tax Services Group, Myers provides individual and fiduciary tax services for high net worth individuals and their families. He also serves many closely held businesses in a wide variety of industries.

Myers is a member of the firm’s Real Estate Development & Construction Services Group, helping to develop strategies to better meet the needs of this industry, and is actively involved in RKL’s Estate and Trust Planning Group, aimed at staying on the cutting edge of issues affecting clients. He joined RKL in 2012, bringing with him more than 13 years of tax accounting experience. 

Myers is a 2011 graduate of the Leadership York program, a board member of the York County Estate Planning Council and a 2015 recipient of the Central Penn Business Journal’s “Forty Under 40” award.

He is an active participant in several community benefit organizations, including Big Brothers Big Sisters of York & Adams Counties and Leg Up Farm. Myers is a graduate of Lebanon Valley College and resides in York with his wife and three daughters.
