Noteworthy RKL News Click any article title to read the entire text. RKL Announces Promotions in Leadership RKL Announces Promotions in Leadership Principal to Partner: Laurie M. Peer, CPA, CFP® has been promoted to Partner in RKL's Tax Services Group. She joined RKL in 1992. Her responsibilities include individual tax planning and compliance as well as financial planning for her clients and their families. She also serves as an investment advisor representative with Sterling Financial Advisors, LLC, a registered investment advisory firm and subsidiary of RKL. Laurie is a Penn State University graduate and resides in Alsace Township. Wendy L. Lance, CPA, MST, has been promoted to Partner in RKL's Tax Services Group. She is responsible for providing and managing tax planning and compliance services for corporations, partnerships and individuals. She specializes in corporate and pass-through entity tax planning and compliance, multi-state taxation and accounting for income taxes. Prior to joining the firm in 2005, Wendy practiced in Central Pennsylvania with Arthur Andersen LLP and in Cleveland, Ohio with Coopers & Lybrand LLP. Wendy has her Bachelor's degree from the University of Richmond, and holds a Masters in Taxation from Villanova University. She serves as Treasurer and Trustee for the Lititz Library and is on the Board of Directors for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lancaster County. Manager to Principal: Donal Renninger, CPA has been promoted to Principal in RKL's Audit Services Group. She joined RKL in 2008. She has extensive experience serving governmental entities and non-profit organizations. Donal is a Kutztown University graduate and resides in Reading. Sara (Sally) Stewart, CPA has been promoted to Principal in RKL's Audit Services Group. She joined RKL in 2006. Her responsibilities include providing auditing services for non-profit and government organizations. Sally is a Mount Saint Mary's College summa cum laude graduate and resides in Mohrsville. RKL Adds Two New Managers Michelle J. Frye, CPA is being admitted as a Manager in RKL's Audit Services Group and will work out of the firm's York office. Frye comes to RKL from ParenteBeard's York Office and brings with her over 9 years of experience in public accounting. She specializes in engagements for not-for-profit organizations and government entities. She currently serves on the Finance Committee of York's Downtown, Inc. and is a member of the Kiwanis Club of Norlanco-Rheems and York County Economic Alliance's Chamberfuel program. She is also a member of York College's Women's Business Center Organization (WBCO), where she serves as a mentor for a business student. Frye is a graduate Elizabethtown College and lives in Marietta. Casey L. Lemkelde, CPA is being admitted as a Manager in RKL's Audit Services Group and will work out of the firm's York office. Lemkelde comes to us from ParenteBeard's York Office and brings with her almost 7 years of experience in public accounting. Her experience is in serving a wide range of government and not-for-profit clients. She currently serves on the Finance Committee of Leg Up Farm, Inc. and is active in York County Economic Alliance's Chamberfuel program. Lemkelde is a graduate of York College and lives in York. Berman, CPA is being admitted as a Partner in RKL's Audit Services Group and will work out of the firm's York office. Berman comes to RKL from ParenteBeard's York Office and brings with him over 16 years of experience in public accounting. He specializes in engagements for not for profit organizations, institutions of higher education and government entities. He currently serves as President of Pennsylvania Association of Nonprofit Organizations, Treasurer of the York County Economic Alliance and President of Leg Up Farm. Berman is a graduate of Messiah College and resides in York. Robert M. Gratalo, CPA, MST is being admitted as a Partner in RKL's Tax Services Group and will work out of the firm's York office. Gratalo comes to us from ParenteBeard's York Office and brings with him over 16 years of experience in public accounting. His experience in tax compliance and consulting includes clients in construction, real estate, manufacturing, distribution, and service industries. He currently serves on the Elizabethtown College Accounting Curriculum Advisory Committee and the Country Club of York Finance Committee. He is a graduate of Elizabethtown College (BS) and earned his MST from Widener University and resides in York. Steven E. Fisher, CPA is being admitted as a Partner in RKL's Audit Services Group and will work out of the firms' Wyomissing and Lancaster offices. Fisher comes to RKL from ParenteBeard's Reading Office and brings with him over 20 years of experience in public accounting, 9 of which were with Ernst & Young in Reading/Harrisburg. He primarily serves commercial clients in the manufacturing and distribution industries. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the United Way of Berks County, the Greater Reading Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Hawk Mountain Council Boy Scouts of America, and the Tulpehocken Youth Organization. He is a graduate of Penn State University and resides in Bernville. RKL Hires Elizabeth A. Brennan, CPA, as Principal Brennan has over 10 years of industry experience. Prior to joining RKL, She served for as Senior Manager with ParenteBeard. In addition, she spent 3 years in private industry before beginning her career in public accounting. Brennan holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Millersville University. She is a member of the American and Pennsylvania Institute’s of Certified Public Accountants and serves as Vice President on the Board of Directors for CASA of Lancaster County, Inc. RKL Names Lancaster Office Managing Partner Novis joined the firm in 2000 and has over 18 years of public accounting experience, including extensive experience in matters relating to Business Valuation, Fraud and Forensic Accounting and Litigation Consulting. Before joining RKL, she was employed as a business advisory manager with an international public accounting firm. Novis is on the Board of Directors for the United Way of Lancaster County and will serve as their 2012 Campaign Chair. Novis is a past recipient of the Forty Under 40 Award. She holds a Bachelors degree in Accounting from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and is a member of the American and Pennsylvania Institutes of Certified Public Accountants, National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts, and Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. RKL Adds Senior Living Services Consulting Group The SLSC Group, lead by Jeff Boland, provides a variety of services to senior living and other healthcare providers. They specialize in the areas of operational analysis of long term care providers, process improvement, revenue cycle assistance, regulatory compliance, Minimum Data Set completion and education, Medicare licensure certification, software implementation, Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement, pre-survey analysis, due diligence and cost report preparation. “The Senior Living Services Consulting Group will enable us to expand our existing healthcare services industry practice and will offer senior living providers another option for services,” said Ed Monborne, RKL’s CEO. “These talented individuals are well-known in the senior living field and have the industry experience necessary to understand clients’ challenges in today’s economic and reimbursement climate.” The SLSC team has over 72 combined years of long term care experience. The team comes to RKL from the Senior Living Services Group at ParenteBeard. Jeff, Stephanie, and Rossana also worked together at KPMG and a regional healthcare consulting firm. Prior to joining this group three years ago, Tracy was a Coordinator of Clinical Information Systems at a multi-facility not-for-profit organization. Ed Monborne Named CEO Monborne will replace J. Andrew Weidman, CPA as CEO. Weidman has been named Chairman of the Board and will continue to conduct business from the Reading office in his capacity as Partner and member of the firm’s Board of Directors. Monborne joined RKL in 1994 and has over 27 years of public accounting experience, including ten years with international public accounting firms. He has experience serving a diverse field of industries and clientele. Monborne was most recently Partner-in-Charge of the firm’s Lancaster office and also serves on the firm’s Board of Directors. Monborne is a member of the American and Pennsylvania Institutes of Certified Public Accountants. He serves on the Pennsylvania Chamber of Commerce and Industry Government Affairs Roundtable and Tax Executive Group, the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce and Industry Advocacy Council, and the Lancaster Family YMCA Board of Directors. He holds a Bachelors degree in Accounting from Saint Francis College. He resides in Lancaster with his wife Michelle and their three children. RKL Mourns the Death of Partner, Colleague and Friend, Jim Houck Jim was one of the founding partners of Reinsel, Pacific, Langdon, Houck and Beaver which later became Reinsel & Company LLP and then Reinsel Kuntz Lesher LLP. He was a Partner with the firm for over 32 years and held various leadership positions including Partner-In-Charge of the Reading Office Small Business Services Group and, most recently, President of Sterling Financial Advisors LLC. Jim truly lived the "trusted business advisor" role with his clients, and served as a mentor to many coworkers. Jim was a lifelong resident of Berks County and active in the community. He was a member of Bausman Memorial United Church of Christ and served as a founding member of the Wyomissing Area Education Foundation. Jim enjoyed traveling with his wife, Ann, and spending time with his family. His favorite pastimes were fishing and golfing. He was a sports enthusiast and a fan of Penn State, Flyers, Phillies, and Eagles. RKL Hires Scott J. Kimmel as Partner and Business Development Officer Scott has over 23 years of experience in client development, risk and supply chain management, and business consulting. He most recently worked as Chief Business Development Officer at Parente Beard. Prior to working at Parente Beard, Scott was Director of Business Development for Beard Miller, Associate Director of Business Development at Ernst & Young, and Assistant VP of Global and Strategic Alliances at Dun & Bradstreet. Scott holds a BBA in Finance from Kent State University and an MBA in International Marketing from Saint Joseph's University. He also received a Graduate Certificate in E-commerce/Information Technology from New York University. His memberships and affiliations include United Way Lancaster, Junior Achievement, Commonwealth Board of Directors, and the Lancaster Public Library Board of Trustees. ### Jeffrey Horst Named One of Central PA's Forty under 40 Jeff is a Partner in Reinsel Kuntz Lesher’s Tax Services Group. He has over 15 years of public accounting experience in the area of taxation. Prior to joining RKL in 2003, he worked with KPMG and Arthur Andersen where he provided a variety of tax compliance and consulting services to publicly-traded and privately-held businesses, including many companies in the financial services, manufacturing and wholesale distribution industries. Jeff is a graduate of Messiah College and holds a Master’s Degree in Taxation from Villanova University. This year’s nominations for the Forty Under 40 program ended in late April. A panel of four judges, comprised of past award recipients, reviewed and scored the nominees to determine the top forty list. 2010 judges include Steve Buterbaugh, vice president of McConkey Insurance & Benefits; Tonya McGee, COO of BVFR & Associates LLC and president of Town & Country Day School; Brian Wassell, partner with Trout Ebersole Groff; and Deepa Mehta Balepur, principal and partner of The Wolman Group, RE/MAX Associates of Lancaster.
