RKL Alumni Connection catches up with Mike De Stefano, former RKL team member, current VP of Finance, husband, father and avid runner. We wanted to know what Mike’s been up to and how his experience at RKL help shape his career.
Q: What have you been up to lately?
A: “I work for a company called Lucknow-Highspire Terminals LLC and I serve as Vice President of Finance. Currently, I serve as an at-large council member at the state level for the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA). I’ve been an active volunteer and member of PICPA over the past 20 years at the state and local levels. Outside of the office, our three daughters keep my wife and I busy with their sports and activities. For the first autumn in 11 years, I am not coaching any of my children! I look forward to cheering them on from the stands instead.
I am an active runner and have completed 11 half marathons and two marathons. In early January, I am heading to Disney to run a series of races called the Dopey Challenge (four consecutive days of increasing distances, culminating in a full marathon on the final day). I hope I survive, but it’s been on my bucket list for a while. Disney is a favorite place for our family – we visit multiple times a year and have made some fantastic memories throughout the years.
Q: How did you help drive real results for clients during your time at RKL?
A: “As I started to get to know clients and gain more experience as an auditor, I realized that beyond facilitating their regulatory need for an audit, RKL was uniquely positioned to help them answer a more important question, ‘What can we do better?’ Being that trusted outside advisor allowed me to bring context, insights and industry analysis to get our clients beyond the compliance side and really help them be more efficient and effective at their jobs.”
Q: How do you feel your RKL experience helped shape your personal journey?
A: “I attribute a lot of the business traits that I value today to my time at RKL. I learned to try different things and found myself in many environments that were uncomfortable at first. There was always a safety net of people that kept you from falling flat on your face and helped to guide you through it to learn and be stronger from the experience. I had a long tenure at RKL and it gave to me as much as I hope I gave to the firm.”
