Matt Piatt believes quality is not an act, it’s a habit – an adage that is reflected in his daily work as the Practice Leader for RKL’s State and Local Tax (SALT) Services Group.
He worked as a tax research assistant while in law school and came to enjoy the complexity and importance that tax plays in the life of a business. Now, Matt has over a decade of experience in accounting and finance. He enjoys helping clients understand compliance with various state and local tax obligations, from helping them understand where they need to file to resolving past-due obligations.
His expertise spans a range of tax categories, including income, franchise, gross receipts and sales and use tax. His services are wide-ranging and include nexus studies, voluntary disclosure agreements, taxability determinations, sourcing/apportionment issues, SALT M&A due diligence and return review. Although Matt’s expertise benefits various industry sectors, he has substantial experience working with private equity, strategic buyers and closely held businesses.
For Matt, being a trusted advisor means going the extra mile to help clients anticipate tax implications.
“Being a trusted advisor often means assisting clients with the questions that they don’t ask but should be thinking about.”
