The Client:
MoJo Active is a full-service marketing agency that helps clients grow their organizations through a wholistic approach to marketing. They serve many industries including nonprofits, large ecommerce firms, business to business organizations, manufacturers and resellers.
The agency is owned and operated by Jared Frank and Jim Carpenter and employs approximately 45 people across multiple states. They are focused on creating “tangible results for real, victorious companies.”
The Challenge:
When a transition of ownership occurred at MoJo Active, an opportunity to evaluate HR practices naturally presented itself. The new owners wanted to ensure that they were building an organization that was not only compliant with workplace regulatory requirements but also continued to be a great place to work for its employees.
In addition to ensuring their HR policies and procedures were current and compliant, there was a desire to provide a neutral, unbiased resource for employees to rely on to discuss confidential or sensitive situations.
The day-to-day management of HR functions was no longer sustainable for the owners to lead alone, and many responsibilities were falling to supervisors who weren’t equipped with the expertise to help navigate sensitive situations.
They recognized that at the life stage of their business, HR was an area where they could benefit significantly from expertise in compliance, employee relations and day-to-day consulting, but they didn’t have enough need to justify a full-time hire.
The RKL Approach:
MoJo Active first reached out to the RKL Virtual Workforce Strategies team on a consulting basis. RKL assessed the current opportunities and challenges as ownership changed hands and provided expertise on compliance and employee relations issues as needed.
As they built trust, the relationship grew and RKL Virtual began supporting MoJo Active as their day-to-day outsourced People Operations department. RKL became the HR resource for employees, provided compliance oversight and management, updated the employee handbook and worked with the owners to create career pathways and support role transitions, in addition to consulting on various workforce related questions and projects.
