Nationwide studies find that 90 percent of teachers use their own money to purchase supplies for their students, spending an average of $500 in 2015. In response to this pressing need, RKL’s Young Professionals spearheaded a firm wide School Supply Drive. 2017 marked the fourth year of this campaign and the strongest showing to date, with more than 25,000 items – backpacks, uniforms, pencils, notebooks, highlighters and more – collected for local schools in need.
When our Young Professionals personally delivered the items to schools, they experienced a wave of gratitude and a deeper understanding for what the items represent to the students. As one school principal noted, the donations “take away some of the stressors that our students and families face beyond their control” so students can focus on learning.
